California VA Aid & Attendance
VA Aid & Attendance has its own income, net-worth, and transfer rules, while California adds CalVet homes and a disabled-veterans property-tax exemption.
Aid & Attendance is a federal pension benefit with its own rules
For the December 1, 2025–November 30, 2026 period, the VA lists a maximum annual Aid & Attendance pension rate of $29,093 for a veteran with no dependents and $34,488 for a veteran with one dependent. The VA also publishes different rates for two veterans who are married to each other and for Housebound/Aid & Attendance combinations (VA, Current Veterans Pension Rates).
The same VA page lists a $163,699 net-worth limit for that period and a three-year asset-transfer look-back, with penalties that can run as long as five years. A transfer that does not create a California Medi-Cal nursing-facility penalty can therefore still produce a VA issue (VA, Current Veterans Pension Rates).
